Clay Pigeon Shoot A Blast!

Fun in the sun - perfect weather for shooting
On August 24th we had 22 shooters, including Brothers, friends and family, converge on the Coon Creek Hunt Club for the 7th Annual Clay Pigeon Shoot.  This year saw five father-son/daughter combinations and a good number of beginners or those that have been away from the sport for a while.  We were blessed with perfect weather and the steady hands of our younger shooters.  The surprise shooter of the day was our own Les Paprot, who shook off the rust and then proceeded to bust clay after clay!  Nice job Les!

As we do every year, the safety portion of the class is done first, followed by the chance to take some warm-up shots from the wobbler tower.  The Club provided two instructors that spent almost two hours with the newest shooters to make sure they were comfortable, safe and successfully breaking some clays.

New this year was the completion of three separate shooting areas:  Sporting Clays, Trap, and the Wobbler Tower.  This allowed for multiple opportunities to shoot without any waiting.  By lunch time, everyone was about “shot out” as the action was non-stop!  There was a new “Top Gun” crowned this year, so congratulate Chris Burns when you see him next, he shot lights-out all day!
The new archery range was up and running as well, and we saw about a third of the group try their hand on the course.  From my vantage point, it appeared the ladies had the steadier aim over there.
The Knights supplied the pop and water from inventory, so this event (as always) is a zero cost event to the Council as each Brother pays for what they shoot.

We finished with some lunch and congratulations for the participants.  My thanks to everyone that helped out, and I look forward to setting it up again next year.
